MY STORY

A native Buffalonian whose family emigrated to the city from Havana, Cuba in the 1960s, she is dedicated to advocating for underrepresented communities and creating free autonomous spaces for constructive support of marginalized peoples.


Dejia Marie James has been featured in local and national conferences and led community coalition-based policy initiatives leading to the passage of legislation on local municipal and state level government.

Host of The Public Good, a weekly radio show and podcast, on WUFO 96.5, Youtube and podcast platforms, revealing the real faces and spaces of community work; connecting their stories to national social issues relevant to Western New Yorkers and the rest of the world. Dejia Marie helps community tell their story through creative mediums.

Dejia Marie received her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with a minor in Spanish from SUNY Geneseo, where she completed her Spanish studies in Quito, Ecuador.

Her current and prior experience include her current role as Director of Policy Advancement & Media at Partnership for the Public Good, a community-based think tank in Buffalo, NY, in addition her past roles including Manager of Organizing & Strategy for immigration advocacy with the New York Immigration Coalition, refugee resettlement, and childcare small business development through a program spearheaded by Childcare Resource Network and Journey's End Refugee Services. She has also coordinated for racial equity initiatives at a local WNY based foundation.
